Manchester United notched a unique century against Everton (W 2-1) by claiming their 100th Premier League (PL) victory after conceding the opener, showing heart yet again to come from behind as part of a run of conceding first in three of their last four competitive matches (W3, L1). That’s just one of the reasons that manager Erik ten Hag praised his side’s spirit and belief after their narrow 1-0 win over Omonia Nicosia in the UEFA Europa League during midweek, their third straight triumph following a 6-3 derby mauling by Manchester City earlier this month.
Looking for a swift return to the illustrious Champions League, the Red Devils have shown some strong form this campaign, losing just one of their last 12 PL home games (W7, D4), with impressive back-to-back victories here over Liverpool and Arsenal important early-season scalps at Old Trafford. Beating fellow top-six contenders Newcastle United would be another impressive result as they bid to uphold their outstanding recent home H2H record (W6, D1).
Expected Lineup
Newcastle know how to find the back of the net themselves and are fresh from scoring nine goals in two PL games (W2), including a 5-1 demolition of Brentford last weekend, with Eddie Howe’s side now seeking improvement on the road to sustain their push for European qualification. Cristiano Ronaldo netted his 700th club goal against Everton, which was his second strike in five Man United games which arrived before half-time. Meanwhile Newcastle’s Miguel Almiron was on target in each of their last two PL games – they’re now unbeaten in his last five goalscoring appearances (W4, D1).
